Characterized by strength, stiffness and durability, Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is the strongest of the species in The Teal-Jones Group’s family of fine forest products. Found throughout the southern half of British Columbia, Douglas fir reaches its best growth along the lower elevations of the BC coast and Vancouver Island. The narrow sapwood is light in color, while the heartwood ranges from yellowish to reddish brown producing a distinctive characteristic. The species is:

• Well regarded by engineers and builders, particularly for structural components and heavy timber applications.

• High in strength and offers good gluing characteristics for use in manufacturing laminated beams and other.

• Often the preferred choice for structural timbers and framing lumber for worldwide housing markets, but most commonly in North America, Australia and Europe.
