As we recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day Sept 30, it is important we acknowledge the role Canadian businesses play in economic reconciliation and how partnerships are an integral part of that work.

Teal Jones’ Titan Ridge cedar shake and shingle mill in Port McNeill is co-managed by a member of the Kwakiutl Nation with support from the Kwakiutl Band Council. Many of those working at the mill are members of local Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw, Kwakiutl, Da’naxda’xw Namgis and Quatsino First Nations.

We also partner on the logs coming into the mill – they come from Western Forest Products’ local woods operations. This important fibre supply is grown and sustainably harvested on and around North Vancouver Island. Through fibre agreements and long-standing business partnership with Western Forest Products we are able to add value to this sustainably-grown product at the Titan Ridge mill.

Together, we maximize value from local logs, creating good jobs for about 20 people while providing a product that contributes to building housing in BC.
