Sustainable Practices
The Teal-Jones Group is committed to the ongoing health and sustainability of our forests, our environment, and our industry’s future.
Teal-Jones’ forestry operations voluntarily meet Canada’s leading national standard for sustainable forest management. PEFC Canada now has ownership of the technical content of the withdrawn Canadian Forest Management Standard CSA Z809-16 formerly owned and administered by the Canadian Standards Group (CSA). As of May 2023, work is underway with the PEFC Canada Technical Committee to develop a new standard, based off the withdrawn CSA Z809-16 standard, with a goal to release the PEFC International endorsed standard in 2024. For the purposes of the 2022 Sustainable Management Plan, Teal will continue to reference the CSA Z809-16 Standard. An important part of this standard is the systematic approach to corporate management which requires continual improvement. The system is based on the on-going adaptive management process of management commitment; planning; implementation and operation; checking and management review.
Teal-Jones’ wood products are certified under the Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification Chain of Custody System.
These standards provide for independent third-party verification, assuring the public of sustainable forest management planning and practices based upon benchmarks derived from internationally-recognized, ongoing and long term, intergovernmental processes and guidelines.
